Rules and Regulations.
In both 1960 and 1968, the students argued that Barnard should trust their maturity and their ability to act responsibly. In 1968 they would ask for a full re-examination of in loco parentis policies (such as the housing rules) as part of a wider movement for change -- sexual, social, and political -- and further insisted on having students’ voices taken seriously. Student efforts were successful and brought about a much needed change in housing policy.
